Semester Long Middle School Writing Course Part I: Self-Paced (BFCM Edition)

Learners will write a total of SIX essays, FOUR creative writing pieces, ONE poem, and ONE book report.

Learners will read TWO short stories, ONE ballad or epic, ONE text of their choice, and an optional mythology.

The course will consist of weekly writing assignments.

In this semester-long course, students will cover all the objectives from four of the Academy writing courses.

This is a flexible schedule course with zero live meetings.  However, the instructor will be available to answer all questions via email.

Participation from all learners will be expected as essays and papers will be turned into the classroom.

*Due to request, feedback will be provided in the form of a graded rubric (percentage, not a letter grade)*

Essay Preparation:

The 'Hamburger' Paragraph Method, Introduction, and Conclusion

Mastering the Five Paragraph Essay Pt 1:

The essays include: Definition, Compare and Contrast, Persuasive, and Analysis.

Mastering the Five Paragraph Essay Pt 2:

The essays include: Personal Narrative and Research.

Creative Writing: Unlocking the Imagination:

The creative writing includes: Dialogue practice, Myths, Just So stories, Tall Tells, and Poetry

For interaction: Learners will be asked to share their essays with one another.

Peer-to-peer feedback sheets will be posted in the classroom.

This allows the learners to receive feedback from the instructor and one another.

The "exit ticket' questions will be posted in the classroom for learners to answer/respond to for further clarification about each week's assignment.
