Collect the Clues: Brain Games, Grammar, and Literary Devices

Students will have the opportunity to work together to solve brain games (think rebus, odd one outs, word ladders, and illusions), answer grammar rules (“Does that comma belong there?”) and learn new literary devices (first one to create a simile gets us to the next level) in this ‘collect the clues’ style class.

Learners will be asked to work together to solve the different activities and sometimes they will be asked to work independently to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to “crack the code” to enter the next level.

Each class will consist of levels that need to be completed to advance and put all the clues together to see what they have gathered!

Structure for each lesson:

Introductions

Brain Game (group)

Grammar Activity (short explanations will be provided for each grammar lesson)

Literary Device (individual responses)

Brain Game (group)

Exit Ticket (individual responses)

Total of 3-5 levels to complete.

Each class, students will be introduced to new literary devices and grammar rules that they can apply in their writing.  The brain games will assist in critical thinking.
