Beyond the Five Paragraph Essay: On-Going

***Only for parents that are enrolling a learner that has not previously taken one of Teacher Jade’s Writing Academy courses***

To determine if this is a good fit, please make sure your child is familiar with paragraph formatting (introduction, body paragraphs, conclusion), developing a thesis statement, and writing in third person.

The five-paragraph essay is a foundational writing structure that prepares for longer and more complex essays.

The purpose of this course will be to expand beyond the basic structure learned in the MASTERING THE FIVE PARAGRAPH ESSAY courses.

Class Overview

-Review (introduction, body paragraphs, conclusion)

-Outlining

-Optional graphic organizers

-In class review of essays (taking it from mediocre to amazing)

Writing may include, but are not limited to:

Essays: expository, persuasive, analysis, compare/contrast, process

Creative Writing: biographies, short stories, blogs, PSAs, contracts

Real Life Applicable Writing: product reviews, requesting extensions, college applications and scholarships

*Note*

Students will have a week to submit their first draft.

Work will be returned with feedback.

They will then have another 3-5 days to submit their revisions.

While the learner may still decide to write a five paragraph essay, there will be an expected word count minimum or page numbers depending on the week with 12 point font and double space for formatting.
