Some of the most common questions I get asked are:
Can I really make money teaching online?
Can I earn a full time income on Outschool (or any other platform)?

What can I do to earn money teaching online?
Let me preface this by saying, I DID NOT START EARNING $100+/hour until three years into my online teaching. Please do not feel like you are failing if you are not making $100 or more per hour. Please do not feel like it is an impossibility. I am currently averaging $200/hour for my higher priced classes. I have classes that I offer at way lower prices and the average for those courses are $25-40/hour. When I mention per/hour, this is only for my live classes. I have prerecorded classes that earn me somewhat passive income*.
*I say somewhat because I still have to manage the classes, check my links when I need to update, and respond to participants.
If you find yourself trying to earn more (maximize your time for the highest return), think about how you can create course funnels.
Check out this video, which will be included in more detail of Module 6 of my upcoming Masterclass, on how to develop a variety of classes centered around the same subject/topic.
On Outschool, there are four different class formats. These formats can also be used on different platforms or your own website. One-time classes meet once. Mulit-day classes meet more than once. Flex classes are prerecorded. Subscription based classes are pay as you go.
Having multiple class offerings can help increase enrollment. Remember, you want to think about yourself as a business. I am going to use one of my faves (food) as an example. One of my besties is Little Debbie (despite wanting a six pack, we’re very close). If Little Debbie only had Caramel Bars, I would purchase Hostess Snacks for variety. But, Little Debbie has Nutty Bars, Zebra Cakes, Crunch Bars, Oatmeal Crème Pies, and so much more. This means I stay loyal to Little Debbie and keep buying when I have a snack craving. If these snack options weren’t available, I would purchase Hostess (even though I think their options are dry), but it is fulfilling a need.
Your classes are fulfilling a need. Make sure you have a variety to offer.
How will this help you earn $100/hour?
You are increasing your class offerings by retaining learners.
Pre-recorded classes allow you the flexibility to offer classes without being physically present. For every class you have available, I recommend having a recorded version.
After teaching the same course multiple times, you will have that class structure and format down which means you can increase the class size (as needed and if you are comfortable with classroom management).
*These factors are dependent on the class material. My essay writing courses are lecture based but I make sure that there is time for engagement and interaction. I have another class that meets with younger children, and I have to keep those class sizes small for two reasons: the class targets younger learners, and they share their work at the end of class. Too many children would cause the class to go over time.
Consider the length of time for your classes. My on-going classes are 25 minutes which means I can teach two sections in the same hour (Example: 1:00-1:25; 5-minute break; 1:30-1:55). This allows me to earn $100 in that hour.
There are multiple ways to increase your hourly income with online courses. In addition to teaching live classes and offering pre-recorded classes, consider how you can scale and provide other goods/services related to your course.
