What will be taught?
This course covers the fundamentals of poetry, including types of poems, rhythm, imagery, sound devices, and poetic forms. Students will learn how to analyze and write poems while developing their language and creative writing skills.

What topics are covered?
The course includes lessons on haikus, free verse, sonnets, acrostics, and more. Students will also explore rhythm and meter, imagery, sensory language, and poetic devices like alliteration and symbolism.

How is the class structured?
The course is self-paced, with short, engaging videos lasting 5-10 minutes. Each video is followed by an assignment to help students apply what they’ve learned. Students can move at their own speed, completing assignments when it fits their schedule.

How is the class taught?
I’ll use clear, step-by-step video lessons that explain each topic in an engaging way. Assignments provide hands-on practice, and students receive personalized feedback on their work to help them grow and improve.

What’s my teaching style?
My teaching style is interactive, encouraging, and student-focused. I aim to make poetry fun and approachable while providing thoughtful feedback to build confidence and spark creativity.

Is this a self-paced course?
Yes! Students have the flexibility to learn on their own schedule. Lessons are short, and assignments are designed to fit into busy routines, making it easy to balance learning with other activities.

 

Objectives:

Identify and write different types of poems, including haikus, sonnets, free verse, and acrostics.

Understand the elements of rhythm and meter, including how to count syllables and identify common patterns like iambic pentameter.

Use imagery and sensory language to create vivid pictures in their writing.

Recognize and apply poetic devices such as alliteration, assonance, onomatopoeia, and symbolism.

Experiment with rhyme schemes (AABB, ABAB, etc.) and structure to enhance their poems.

Analyze poems by famous poets to understand their techniques and how to incorporate them into their own work.

Build confidence in expressing ideas and emotions through the art of poetry.
