Come learn about the many different types of stories and write your own!

As this is a self-paced courses, participants can watch the videos as many times as they would like and write as many stories as they desire.

Each lesson is between 10-15 minutes and includes a mini-lecture about the story elements, a reading of a story as an example, and a craft idea that matches the story.  This course is great for beginning writers ages 8-11.

Module 1: Personal Narrative: “Who Am I”

Learners will introduce themselves through their work.

Module 2: Fairy tales

Learners will learn about the elements needed for a complete fairy tale.

Module 3 Nursery Rhymes

Learners will learn about ABAB and AABB rhyme scheme.

Module 4: “Just So” story

Learners will learn about Rudy Kipling.

Module 5: Fable – Aesop

Learners will learn about morals.

Module 6: Mythical creatures

Learners will learn about different types of mythological creatures.

Module 7: Hero’s Journey

Learners will learn about the elements needed for a hero’s journey.

Module 8: Tall Tales/Legends

Learners will learn about hyperbole and Paul Bunyan.

Class #9: Comic Strips

Learners will learn about the two types of comics: action and humor.

Module 10: Haiku and Limerick

Learners will learn how to structure these different types of poems.

Module 11: Superheroes

Learners will learn about different types of superheroes (think DC and Marvel).

Module 12: “How to”/Informational Text:  I am an expert in…

Learners will wrap up the session by sharing about a topic they know about.
