Teacher Jade Profile

I started tutoring in college as an AmeriCorps member. Tutoring helped me finally answer the question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” I wanted to be an artist but I also wanted to work with youth as an educator.

I completed my B.A. in History and African/African-American History.
My M.Ed is in Professional Studies: Family, Youth, and Community with my license in Parent and Family Education.

I went from tutoring in after school programs to teaching in the classroom. During summer break I would teach art classes at local community centers. It was my way of taking a break from the classroom.

Once I started homeschooling I transitioned from PT tutoring online and FT teaching in public schools to FT online teaching.

My approach to teaching is having student-led learning. If the learner is enjoying what is being taught there will be more engagement and the learning will be retained.

Specialties: English Language Arts (ELA) – reading and writing, arts, world history, and ELL/ESL (TOEFL certified)

Hi Jade, I have decided to quit teaching after 14 years, it horrifies me to think of going back in the classroom. I’m wondering if I might like doing it online, there’s one drawback though… I really detest lesson planning. What are your suggestions? Thanks.
