Who Are You Talking To?

Mid-August Newsletter and Blog

Networking and Proposals

Are you marketing your classes?  As important as social media marketing is, there are still other avenues of marketing (think about how you found out about new products before social media was a thing).  Sending proposals to brick and mortar locations has worked well for my organization to reach a different demographic.

Another important aspect of my marketing has been networking.  Who do you know in your inner circle?  Who do those people know?  The connections you already have can help build your client base.

Homeschoolers and Online Courses

Make sure you know your audience.  If you don’t know much about the homeschool community, check out my Instagram for a few tips.

My knowledge about homeschooling families also helped me secure my newest partnership with Outschool.

Do you know your audience?

When I first started teaching youth online, my primary audience was homeschoolers.  I was/am also a homeschooling parent.  Becoming a homeschooler also changed my approach to teaching.  However, about 40% of my families utilize my courses to supplement what their children aren’t learning in school.  Recently, I partnered with Outschool to offer tips and strategies to help families that want to transition to homeschooling.

When you’re sharing your class information on your social media pages, remember to be a resource.  Share tips and strategies too.

Teacher Jade’s Writing Academy MicroGrants

The haves and the have nots… I started my scholarship program to assist families that wanted to take Academy classes, but it’s just not enough.  I have provided twelve $100 scholarships over that past two years ($1200 scholarships/year).  Now, I want to do more.  I would like to provide families with microgrants that will assist with them being able to take online courses.  These grants will be need-based.  The grants will help cover the costs for devices to actually take the courses adn/or internet bills.

For my birthday this year, I am asking individuals to make a $35 donation to help me provide microgrants to families that want to take virtual courses.

Donations can be made to my CashApp ($jaialiana) or sent through PayPal (weat0029@umn.edu).  Please put ‘grant’ in the subject line.
