Creative Writing: Personal Narratives & Short Stories (Self-Paced)

In this 9-week quarter long creative writing course, students will learn how to write a personal narrative, an original short story, and a series of creative writing projects.

We begin with personal storytelling so students can write from their own experiences, then transition into crafting fictional short stories with clear structure, vivid details, and strong character development.

𝗘𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲𝘀:

– A pre-recorded lesson focused on writing structure, technique, and modeling

– A guided short story reading and assignment to build comprehension and analysis skills

– Grammar and sentence work directly tied to writing practice

Learners will complete 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀: two personal narratives, a short story, and one creative writing piece. They will also complete seven short story readings throughout the course to strengthen reading and analytical skills.

The course concludes with a final presentation where students share and reflect on their work.
